Disney California Adventure Park visitors will have 17 days, from January 20th until February 5th to celebrate the upcoming Year of the Rooster (or “Red Fire Chicken Year” as it is known in some circles). The Lunar New Year is a special tradition celebrated for thousands of years in China, Vietnam, Korea, Singapore, Laos and many other Asian countries throughout the world. Most Asian countries use the lunar calendar to calculate the year and the New Year date is selected by picking the second new moon after the winter solstice each year. Disney really knows how to bring the color and excitement of this special holiday to life with plenty of exciting entertainment, traditional foods, and festive activities for theme park visitors to participate in and enjoy. Three new marketplaces will feature traditional foods and culinary delights inspired by Chinese, Vietnamese and Korean cultures and Disney characters will be dressed in traditional Asian outfits to complete the festive atmosphere.
Here’s a rundown of what to expect during this fabulous celebration at Disney California Adventure Park in Anaheim:
A Wall for Well-Wishers – This extra-special Disney “wishing wall” begins at the Paradise Garden Grill and stretches to Goofy’s Sky School. This is the place to wish for the best for the coming year: health, happiness, and hope.
The Acrobats of China – Watch as award-winning acrobats use chairs, ropes, hoops, drums and other props to perform stunning physical feats of epic proportions. The choreographed unicycle stunts and other coordinated activities taking place in Paradise Garden will dazzle and amaze!
“Hurry Home” – Enjoy the six-minute story of a Little Lantern and its travels to celebrate the Lunar New Year with family members. This is a pre-show to the “World of Color” held each night on Paradise Bay. Delightful music and animated appearances by Mulan and Mushu make this a magical experience.
