Planning a trip abroad?  With terror alerts and general instability escalating across the globe, it’s always wise to remain vigilant when in public places, particularly in very crowded areas or while using mass transportation.  Additional caution is advised if planning your journey during religious holidays or large events and festivals.  Travelers are also encouraged to enroll in a free service of the U.S. Department of State / Bureau of Consular Affairs called the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) for additional protection and security.  STEP permits citizens of the United States and nationals traveling abroad to enroll their trip with the nearest Consulate or U.S. Embassy. As a member of this helpful program you will receive important information about safety conditions in the country where you plan to travel, assisting you in making adjustments in travel plans when and if necessary.  The STEP system will help the U.S. Embassy contact you in the event of a family emergency, natural disaster or civil unrest.  You’ll be able to stay connected to your friends and family in the event of any emergency as well.

The next time your timeshare ownership, international exchange, or other travel plans will be taking you out of the country, sign up for STEP. There’s absolutely no cost to join and the benefits of staying connected will keep you informed and safe. As an added bonus, while at home, members of the Smart Travel Enrollment Program will receive up-to-date travel warnings and alerts to make adjustments in travel plans and make future planning easier.
