St. Augustine, Florida was founded in 1565 by Don Pedro Menendez de Aviles of Spain. Castillo de San Marcos – One of the most popular attractions in the city. this fortress was completed by the Spanish in 1695. Practically indestructible, this fort was made entirely from sea shells and coral and able to withstand the elements and military assaults over the centuries.

Fort Matanzas – A masonry watchtower built by the Spanish in 1742 to keep watch over St. Augustine from advancing enemies from the south by way of the Matanzas River.

Lightner Museum – Mummies and shrunken heads can be found in this unique museum, in addition to attractive stained glass and crystal antiques.

St. Augustine Pirate & Treasure Museum – You’ll discover the largest collection of authentic exhibits and pirate artifacts including shipwreck treasures and two Jolly Roger flags.

Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park – this is considered Florida’s oldest tourist attraction where guests can drink water from Ponce de Leon’s Spring of Eternal Hope.  This is also the site of America’s first colony, settled in 1565.

Flagler College – Visit Henry Flagler’s former St. Augustine residence which was transformed into a beautiful college campus.  Well-preserved,  impressive architecture and beautifully landscaped grounds  just steps away from all the action of downtown.
